Implementation of Christian Education in Building a Balance Between Academics and Spirituality of Theology Students

Abstract

Theological education has a significant responsibility in shaping servants of God who are not only intellectually superior but also spiritually mature. However, in practice, there is often a disparity between students' academic achievement and spiritual growth. This study aims to analyze and describe the implementation of Christian education in building a balance between academics and spirituality in theology students. The approach used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and analysis of curriculum documents. Data analysis techniques were conducted thematically to explore the meaning and patterns that emerged from the experiences of students, lecturers, and the campus environment. The results of the study indicate that balance can be achieved through three main aspects: first, curriculum integration that unites academic and spiritual values; second, the role of lecturers and the campus community in building a spiritual culture that supports holistic student growth; and third, the development of student spirituality as a foundation in the theological learning process. The conclusion of this study confirms that holistic Christian education cannot be separated from the formation of students' faith and character. Therefore, theological educational institutions need to develop curricula and development strategies that emphasize the integration of academics and spirituality as a unified whole in shaping servants of God who are competent, have character, and are rooted in faith.
